Scalabase Conference

Scalabase—a conference for developers in the early stages of their Scala journey—took place on May 14th, 2021. This one-day conference was carefully crafted to be a welcoming and safe space for developers in the early stages of their journey with Scala. Not only were talks specifically aimed at Scala beginners, but most of the presentations were delivered by speakers who are themselves early career Scala developers.

This event featured six presentations, which can be viewed in their entirety in the video at the top of this post.

Scalabase was a completely free event, made possible through a collaboration between ScalaCon, 47 Degrees, and a passionate Scala engineer named Amina Adewusi. Amina had a vision for a Scala conference specifically for beginners. She went to work assembling a team and securing collaborators to actualize this dream. By partnering with 47 Degrees—veterans in the tech conference production space—all the pieces were in place to make Scalabase a reality. As she explains, “The synergy that was created in this partnership between my team and 47 Degrees was really the catalyst for the conference being created so quickly.”

If you’re interested in reading more about the background of this event and how it all came together, check out the post on Amina’s website about creating her dream tech conference.

Watch for the return of Scalabase in November that will coincide with the Fall version of Scalacon.
