Seattle Data Engineering

Join us for this free meeting on Seattle Data Engineering at the Pioneer Square Galvanize!

John Nestor, a 47 Degrees Senior Software Architect and Trainer will present: Intro to Scala for Data Engineering. The talk will show why Scala and its related tools are ideal for data engineering.

  • What is data engineering? How it is similar/different than data science. How reactive systems provide a strong basis for scalable, responsive and fault-tolerant data systems. * Data engineering design patterns including: idempotent messaging, eventual consistency, CRDTs, and log-based stores.
  • Properties of Scala that make it a language of choice for data engineering including: strong types, immutable data structures, functional programming, DSLs, and futures/actors for concurrency and distributed programming.
  • A look at Scala and its related tools for data systems including: Akka, Kafka, Spark, Slick (for relational databases) and a variety of NoSql databases.
  • A look some Scala data processing code samples.

The event will take place from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
